TRAUMA & EMDR THERAPY · GRAND JUNCTION
When the past still feels present.
You may understand that an experience is over while still noticing tension, overwhelm, emotional distance, or strong reactions in everyday life. You deserve space to explore what is happening without being rushed or judged.
Understand the patterns beneath the symptoms
Trauma-informed counseling can explore how past experiences may relate to your present responses, relationships, and sense of safety. We begin with your current needs, strengths, and goals. You don’t have to tell your entire story during the first appointment.
Feeling on alert, overwhelmed, or disconnected
Avoidance, shame, and difficulty trusting
Body tension and stress responses
Recurring relationship patterns
Grief, loss, and difficult life experiences
These experiences can have different causes and do not automatically mean you have PTSD. Assessment helps guide an appropriate plan.
EMDR, with preparation and choice
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. KJ’s clinical approach includes EMDR alongside somatic, relational, and experiential work. Whether EMDR is appropriate is discussed individually, including readiness, preparation, goals, and alternatives.
EMDR is not simply beginning eye movements or revisiting a painful memory. Work includes assessment and preparation, with interventions selected within KJ’s training, supervision, and scope of competence. No single approach is required for every client.
More than words alone
Sessions may include noticing body cues, exploring protective patterns, practicing regulation skills, creative processing, or sandtray. You remain an active participant in decisions about pace and direction.
What to expect
First, we explore what is affecting your life now. Then we collaborate on goals, discuss suitable approaches, and build a plan that can adapt as your needs change. Progress and comfort are reviewed together.
Will I have to share every detail?
We’ll discuss what information is clinically useful and what each approach involves. Questions, preferences, and limits are welcome throughout treatment.
Start with a conversation
In-person appointments in Grand Junction and online appointments may be available. We’ll discuss fit, availability, payment, and the practice coordinating your care during consultation.
